Diamond color is evaluated by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) using a scale ranging from D to Z. Although diamonds may seem colorless to an untrained eye, many stones actually possess subtle yellow tones. As a general guideline, a noticeable change in color typically requires a two-grade difference on the color scale.
Clarity measures the number, size, position and color of inclusions captured within, and blemishes on the surface of a diamond. These inclusions are often minuscule and typically do not detract from the diamond's overall beauty. They serve as natural characteristics that develop during the diamond formation process. Clarity is graded using a scale that ranges from Flawless to Included, with the visibility of imperfections graded under 10x magnification.
Carat is the unit of measurement used to describe a diamond’s weight. Diamond price increases with Carat weight because larger diamonds are not more rare.
